Resolved Question: How nutso can PETA get?

I just read this news story: "CHICAGO (AP) - An animal rights group wants Illinois to install highway signs in memory of cattle killed when trucks hauling them flipped in two separate wrecks. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has asked for permission to buy the markers, one in suburban Chicago and one northwest of Peoria. The group says the signs would pay tribute to the more than 20 cattle killed as a result of negligent driving this year. Illinois Department of Transportation spokesman Josh Kauffman says the request will likely be denied because the state's Roadside Memorial Act specifies that only relatives who lost loved ones in highway crashes may request memorials. In 2006, Virginia rejected PETA's request for highway markers to memorialize hogs killed in crashes on their way to slaughter at Smithfield Foods. http://apnews1.iwon.com//article/20111230/D9RV3AI82.html Now, I'm all for not abusing animals, but, seriously; roadside memorials? Who else thinks this just reinforces PETA's image as a bunch of nutjobs? @ Kelly Jade: Wow. Just wow. I can just see every single inch of roadside, all over the country, covered with roadside memorials for every squirrel, rabbit, possum, skunk, raccoon, deer, armadillo, etc., etc., etc., that ever gets hit by a car. I'm sure all their woodland friends will maintain these memorials, and bring fresh flowers every few days. Oh, puleeze! I've accidentally hit animals on the road, and I DO feel bad when it happens, even a bit sick, but I don't stop and build a roadside memorial, or organize a funeral service. I also don't hold a memorial service for the pork chop on my plate, although I do say grace, and give thanks to God for providing my meal. If you honestly think that all animal deaths should be 'grieved as much as a human', your knowledge and maturity are severely impaired, I'm sorry. I have grieved for pets, who were part of my life and my family, but I don't grieve for animals raised for meat.... Read More »
